Captains Day 1992 - cheque presentation

Friendly and Competitive

Since it was founded in 1985 our Bowls Club has operated a mixed club successfully running a mens and ladies sections by a single management committee.

The current green was built in 1984 by Dacorum Borough Council and in 1985 the Club members paid to have their own clubhouse built. The green was maintained by the Council until 2003 whereupon the members took over the daily work contracting in professional help to oversee and lead on all improvements. The Clubhouse has since been extended to provide full disabled facilities and larger changing rooms.

The Club is affiliated to both the Watford & District and St Albans & District Associations and has playing colours of maroon & gold.

Our Club has built a reputation throughout the County for its wonderful hospitality providing all bowlers and visitors with superb refreshment by its ever giving volunteers. Gala days and charity events are commonplace along with social functions being run throughout the whole year. Since its existence thousands of pounds have been raised for charity particularly the local Hospice.

On the green the Club has enjoyed regular success at County & District levels along with occasional national representation. The Club currently has one of the largest memberships in the County with highly successful recruitment campaigns paying dividends in recent years. The starting and running of an U19 section in 2012 with the aid of eye catching equipment is an achievement the Club is hugely proud of.

In the near future we hope to raise the Club profile further through more links with the town’s sports clubs, youth clubs, schools, commerce and residents encouraging the playing and social benefits of the game.

The progress we have made in the last few years is recognised by Bowls England who named us NATIONAL CLUB OF THE YEAR for 2015 having been named runners up in 2012 and 2013
