Despite winning on 3 of the 4 rinks Berkhamsted Men lost a close fought game to their neighbours Kitcheners, Berkhamsted’s top rink consisted of Eric Browitt, Maurice Primo, John Webb and Terry Kenyon.

Berkhamsted’s mixed team restored winning ways by over coming Harpenden in their Triples match on Sunday, Terry Kenyon was the top rinks skip again this day ably supported by Eric Lloyd and Tom Presland.

For their first game of the  2017 season Berkhamsted Bowls Club had their usual local derby against Potten End Bowls Club. A good start to the season was achieved by Berkhamsted winning on all 6 Rinks with an overall score of 141 – 74. This was greatly helped by a top rink for Berkhamsted of Gary Fisher, Pam Fensome, Geoff Drew and Ken Maynard. Hopefully this example set by the teams continues throughout the season.

Berkhamsted also held their open days on the 29th & 30th  April resulting in a good response in recruiting new members, including some Juniors showing interest.

Do your best to attend and have your say on what and how things should be done to ensure that both the club and individual members have an enjoyable and successful season.

Tea and biscuits are on Lesley and afterwards she will be making the December 2016 and January 2017 100 Club draws.

The final friendly match of the season for Berkhamsted was against Wendover which Berkhamsted won by 125 shots to 80. The top rink was Carole Dunn, Paul Sims and Del Root. Later in the week the Club Under 18’s challenged the Ladies to a match which the Ladies won.

On Sunday, in the Club’s last big day of the playing season, the theme for President’s day was the Olympics with all twelve triples teams being named after sports. In a gala style format all teams played three matches with the Sailing team of Maws Smart, Harvey Marum and Kevin Clarke edging out the Rowing team. All players enjoyed an Olympic Quiz after accompanied by a gold medal meal.

PRESIDENT’S DAY starts promptly at 2 pm this Sunday and the theme for the day is the Olympics/Paralympics with dress code being the colours of the Olympic logo as shown below.  Prior to that at 1.30 all who played in any of this year’s Dacorum Charity Shield matches are asked to come to the club for a celebratory photo in club shirts/whites with the Shield, which is now in our possession!!

The weather looks mainly good for the last day of the playing season and  ALL Players on the list play plus the first two reserves (Joan Luther & Corrine Little).
It will be run as a gala style event with twelve teams of triples all playing three matches of 50 minutes. All the teams will be named after Olympic events so if you fancy coming as a gymnast, rower, cyclist, sailor etc that would also be very welcome (and very funny). We also have a few questions based on this years events in Rio so swat up and blind us with your knowledge.

Food is £6 per head and there will be passes for the main car park (don’t forget there is an Open Day at the Tennis Club)
