As reported to our Club via Alistair Hollis from Bowls England:

The results of the 2014 Club of the Year competition were announced earlier today and I have copied the news release in full below FYI.

The quantity and quality of entries was exceptionally high this year, and we are sorry that Berkhamsted was not successful this year. However, please be assured that the Panel was once again impressed with the work that Berkhamsted continues to do and we would certainly encourage an entry from you in 2015.

Best wishes

Alistair

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Bolton BC Scoops 2014 ‘Club of the Year’ Title

Bolton BC in Lancashire has been named as the Bowls England ‘Club of the Year’ for 2014.

The prestigious title, which is generously supported by Drakes Pride, is awarded annually to the club that is judged to have shown the greatest efforts to promote the club, increase membership and work with the local community.

Bolton BC beat off stiff competition from White Hall BC (Essex), which was named as runner-up, and fellow finalists Stratton Churchway BC (Wiltshire) and Wimbledon Park BC (Surrey) to claim the title.

Bowls England Chief Executive Tony Allcock MBE said: “The number and quality of entries for Club of the Year continues to grow year-on-year, and this year provided the judging panel with a number of tough choices in determining both the shortlist and, of course, the final result. However, it was unanimously felt that the achievements of Bolton BC in promoting and growing the sport of flat green bowls, in an area where the sport is historically played on a crown green, was a magnificent achievement It was further noted that the results this year were as a result of a three-year plan and not something that had been achieved overnight. Finally, I wish to thank Drakes Pride for their continued support of this competition.”
