Here is the big news that was reported on the Bowls England website and as an email to us today:
Bowls England is delighted to announce Oakley BC in Hampshire as the 2013 Bowls England/Drakes Pride Club of the Year.
The judging panel highlighted the club’s successful recruitment campaign that had resulted in 50 new members over the past two seasons, and its success in obtaining funding from Sport England to improve its facilities for members and visitors.
Berkhamsted BC, Hertfordshire, was named as runner-up for the second year in succession with Ledbury BC, Herefordshire and West Bridgford BC, Nottinghamshire, being highly commended by the judges.
Tony Allcock MBE, Bowls England Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted to announce Oakley BC in Hampshire as winners of the 2013 Club of the Year title. All four finalists were of an exceptionally high standard, and I am sure that Oakley BC will justify the honour that has been bestowed upon them. I would like to congratulate all those clubs who reached the final stages and to thank Drakes Pride for their continuing support of this competition, which really does highlight the great work that is going on in clubs across the country to support our sport.”
As winners, Oakley BC will receive a number of prizes including four sets of Drakes Pride Bowls, the Tony Allcock Trophy (to be kept for one year), the Club of the Year Flag, a badge for each club member and a match against the Bowls England President’s Team in 2014.
Berkhamsted BC’s prizes include two sets of Drakes Pride Bowls and a match against a visiting Friends of English Bowling Team, whilst Ledbury BC and West Bridgford BC will both receive two sets of Drakes Pride bowls and a small cash prize.
