Potters Resort 7-11 November 2022
As part of the 2022 Winter Social Programme 36 ‘intrepid’ Club Members went to the Potters Resort in Norfolk between the 7th and 11th November for one of their mid-week breaks. It was a ‘Bowls Tournament’ break and 24 of our members party took part in that event which drew teams from all over the Country (although many of us thought that we would be bowling amongst ourselves!). However, that was not the reason that the majority of those members went; they went to have a good time trying out the many activities that the resort offers along with good food and excellent entertainment throughout the day and well into the evening/early hours (all of this being well ‘lubricated’ by the all inclusive drinks available!).
On the Bowls front, our most successful quartet (Joan Luther, Steve Burrell, Kay Lingwood & Kevin Clarke) reached the Quarter Finals – no mean feat considering they (and all our teams) were up against teams from ‘specialist’ Indoor Bowling Clubs. For some of the other 5 teams we entered, it was a baptism of fire with quite a few of us having their first experience of bowling indoors on the blue carpet – at least we can say that we have bowled in the International Arena used for the World Bowls Championships held at Potters every January. We may not have won many games but most of us had very convivial times with our opponents during the matches – in one match, one of our members threatened to remove her top and run round the rink naked when we won an end (our opponents were definitely considering throwing the next end but their competitive spirit pre-vailed!!!!).
Off the rinks some of our members achieved medals & prizes in participation in events such as quizzes, archery and rifle shooting! whilst others were excelling at early morning dips in the swimming pools. All were unanimous in wanting to repeat this and maybe then we can experience more of the activities on offer; after which we would probably need a(nother) holiday to recover!!! Thanks to Chris Gray for his suggestion and for Sheila Bell for organising this trip.
Tony Smart had his trusty camera and took a few shots as a memory of this great trip; they are captured in the gallery below:
Sheila also was on hand with her camera to catch unsuspecting members around the resort; that gallery follows
