Berkhamsted pulled off a magnificent win in their last Dacorum Shield Game to beat Kings Langley on all rinks. They needed this to overtake Kitcheners who were ahead by 4 ½ points and Berkhamsted gained 5 points in a tense and exciting game. Berkhamsted also won on the two friendly rinks, the highest being Marion Maynard, Dick Gardner, Maurice Primo and Bill Howells.
In the Dacorum Shield all rinks were tight, the men winning with the the last running wood by skip Ken Maynard giving them a 18 – 17 win for the skip, Wally Dunn, Brian Ralphs and Mac Mackness. The mixed rink of Dave Sear, Janice Murgatroyd , Mary Clarke and Terry Kenyon won 19 – 14. The ladies team of Carole Dunn, Liz Temple, Anne Furlong and Jackie Cormack fought back from being 6 – 14 down to win 31 – 25. This win was the last competitive game of the season and brought great delight to the club, their last win in this competition being 7 years ago.
However Kitcheners got their own back for being pipped to the post in the Dacorum Shield by beating Berkhamsted later in the week by 111 shots to 46. Berkhamsted lost on all rinks and did not have a highest rink but only a rink that lost the least of Carole Dunn, Jill Griffin, Dave Drew and Peter Batchelor.
One omission from last week was that on Finals day Carole Dunn won the Seniors Trophy.
