The phone call we had all been hoping for from Bowls England confirmed our Club as the 2015 National Club of the Year , needless to say we are ecstatic – This is the press release from Bowls England today:

THIRD TIME LUCKY AS BERKHAMSTED BC SCOOPS ‘CLUB OF THE YEAR’ TITLE

Bowls England is delighted to announce Berkhamsted BC in Hertfordshire as ‘Club of the Year’ for 2015 – finally taking the title having been runners-up in both 2012 and 2013.
The prestigious title, generously supported by Drakes Pride, is awarded annually to the club that is judged to have shown the greatest efforts to promote the club, increase membership and work with the local community.

Berkhamsted BC beat off stiff competition from runners-up Lyndhurst BC (Durham) and fellow finalists Cowplain BC (Hampshire) and Chacewater BC (Cornwall) to claim the title.
Bowls England Chief Executive Tony Allcock MBE said: “The quality of entries for Club of the Year continues to grow year-on-year, and this year provided the judging panel with a number of tough choices in determining both the regional shortlist and, of course, the final result. However, it was unanimously felt that the continued year-on-year achievements on and off the green at Berkhamsted BC gave them the edge. Finally, I wish to thank Drakes Pride for their continued support of this competition.”
As winners, Berkhamsted BC will receive:
• £250 cash
• Four sets of Drakes Pride Bowls
• The Tony Allcock Trophy (to be kept for one year)
• Two Free Tickets to the Bowls England Men’s Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation
• Bowls England Pennant and Club of the Year Flag
• Framed Certificate
• A badge for each club member
• A match against a visiting Bowls England President’s Team

As runners-up, Lyndhurst BC will receive:
• £150 cash
• Two sets of Drakes Pride Bowls
• The D’Arcy Drayton Cup (to be kept for one year)
• Two Free Tickets to the Bowls England Men’s Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation
• Bowls England Pennant
• Framed Certificate
• A match against a visiting Friends of English Bowling Team
As Regional Winners, Cowplain BC and Chacewater BC will each receive:
• Two sets of Drake Pride Bowls
• £50 cash
• Bowls England Pennant
• A framed certificate

NATIONAL CLUB OF THE YEAR – GREAT NEWS

After hearing from Bowls England our Club had been shortlisted for this prestigious award we were delighted to receive a visit from Bowls England’s Jeff Applegate after being named the East region winners. Naturally we are overjoyed to be shortlisted once again and will keep our fingers crossed it could be our year this time. This is how the news was shown on their website:

Bowls England is delighted to today announce the regional winners in its 2015 Club of the Year Competition organised in partnership with Drakes Pride.
The regional winners are:
North: Lyndhurst BC, Durham
South: Cowplain BC, Hampshire
East: Berkhamsted BC, Hertfordshire
West: Chacewater BC, Cornwall
Each regional winner will receive two sets of Drakes Pride bowls, £50 cash and a framed certificate.
The four regional winners now form the final shortlist from which the overall winner will be selected, whose total prize will include £250, four sets of Drakes Pride bowls, the Tony Allcock Trophy (to be kept for one year), a badge for each club member and a match against a visiting Bowls England President’s Team in 2016.
