The week started well for the Brown family with Lesley Brown winning her Ladies County singles match at Garston 21-17. Also at Garston David Brown won his Men’s County singles match 21-14. Continuing in the Ladies Singles competition Sarah Marshall won her first round match against Tessa Miles of Herts Bowls Club, 21-7. In a club match Berkhamsted beat Chess Vale by 92 Shots to 82. Berkhamsted’s top rink were Christine Sims, Maurice Primo & Derek Sandford. Their winning ways finally run out for the Ladies County Triples team of Linda Ralphs, Liz Temple and Lesley Brown when they were beaten in the Semi-Finals by a team from Harpenden. However the Berkhamsted ladies spirits were restored when the Ladies pairs team of Anne Furlong and Jackie Cormack reached the Third Round of the County Pairs by beating a team from Garston 25-17. The week did not finish well when Berkhamsted were beaten by Harperbury by 95 shots to 84. Berkhamsted’s top and only winning rink was Eric Lloyd, Garry Fisher, Anne Furlong and Lesley Brown. They made a fantastic come-back from 1-14 down to win 23 – 19.
Another accolade for Berkhamsted for Sarah Marshall, who this week won this trophy for her contribution to disability sports in the Dacorum, here being congratulated by Marcia Dunstone, past President of Bowls England.
Sarah won the World Blind Bowls Championships In South Africa this April, ably helped by her director Linda Ralphs.
