We are pleased to announce our Club will be hosting the first ever Watford & District U18 Singles Championship on Saturday 11th July.
Although the detail still has to be sorted it is likely to be an all day event open to boys and girl members of Clubs affiliated to the Watford & District Association. Naturally we want to make it a very special event so we will be looking for an input from our Juniors to help make that happen. We also hope most of our Juniors will play in the competition and that may include any new members we can sign up this season.
So please make a note and put it in your diary. A meeting with the W&D Comp Secretary George Coxwell will be held very soon and more information will be available on this website when that happens. The Competition already has a sponsor and other bowls events have been moved to help support of the event

New laws for flat green bowls come into effect from 1 April 2015 and are available in the booklet Laws of the Sport of Bowls Crystal Mark Third Edition available from Bowls England.

With a very useful ‘Additional Comments’ column this table lists the 35 laws that have been changed; however, only a couple will be of significance to most bowlers and the differences are contrasted below.

1. New Law
“Before delivery a player must be standing on the mat with all or part of at least one foot on the mat. At the moment they deliver the jack or a bowl, the player must have all or part of one foot on or above the mat.”

Old Law
“Before delivery a player should be standing on the mat with one foot fully on the mat. At the moment they deliver the jack or a bowl, the player should have all or part of one foot on or above the mat.”

2. New Law
“For domestic play skips can transfer the duties of marking the scorecard . . . to other members of the team. However, they must make sure that the duties are transferred to players whose positions, in order of play, are the same in each team. If agreement cannot be reached on who should keep the scorecard then the skips in both teams must keep the scorecard . . .”

Old Law
“The skip should be responsible for the score card supplied by the Controlling Body while play is in progress.”

As already mentioned on our facebook  page we are sorry to say our website hasn’t been fully updated as hoped due to our web administrator being away on business. Many pages have already been updated with subtle edits to keep them fresh and relevant but obviously the more observant will notice the larger stuff still has to done.

However we are pleased to say the calendar page is now working so all important playing and social events will be logged on here so you can see what is happening at our Club all this year. Some external information like District & County events may be logged on there as well.

Amongst some of the newer items will be a guide for new members struggling to understand some of the workings and procedures of our Club and bowls in general. This is written by Tom Presland who is a fairly new member himself and thought a beginners viewpoint would be handy.

As soon as we have the fixture lists sorted these will available on here. You will also see new slider pics on the front page, all the latest Comp stats and roll of  honour pages updated.

Thanks for your patience, in the meantime other exciting news we have will be posted here very soon.
